Lilabari Airport
Lilabari Airport (IATA: IXI, ICAO: VELR) is located in the Lakhimpur
district in the state of Assam, India. It also serves the state of Arunachal
Pradesh. The Airport is located 8 km from city center.
The Lilabari Airport project in Lakhimpur began after hectic campaigning and
lobbying by local Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Ranee Narah in 1999-2003.
Construction of the airport had finished by 2003, and the terminal was
inaugurated by then Union Civil Aviation Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain.
Previously, Lilabari Airport was connected to Kolkata and Guwahati by Air
India Regional. The schedule flights are on Sundays and Fridays. The
services has suspended due to lack of patrons.
The terminal has four check-in counters along with one boarding gate and 2
X-Ray baggage facilities. Air conditioned VIP lounge are also available for
passengers with charges applied as per Airports Authority of India (AAI)
rules. There are also a conveyor belts available in the arrival hall.
Cafeteria are available at Airport's visitors area.
The Airport comes under the administrative control of the
AAI.
The Airport facility are managed and control by
AAI. Connection to city center by cabs are easy from here. General taxi
and car rental services are available by request. The nearest international
airport is in Guwahati which is located 425 km away.
