Kunjaban Palace
The green Kunjaban Hillock presents a very magnificent and beautiful piece
to wonder – the Kunjaban Palace. It is situated in Agartala – the capital
city of Tripura just at a distant of 1 Km to the north of the former royal
palace, Ujjayanta which is a nearby attraction. Earlier known as the 'Pushbanta
Palace' it was built by Emperor Birendra Kishor Manikya in 1917, which chose
this place as a treat to the Tripurians.
The awesome landscape of the lush green grass, green gardens, orchards and
little zoo in the surrounding region is a good place to relax and admire the
beauty of the nature away from the rush of the cities.
The elegant and peaceful surroundings of the place have attracted many poets
and inspired them to write great poems. One such recognized and renowned
Indian poet is Rabindranath Tagore. The splendid palace is currently the
abode of the Governor of Tripura but the southern part of it open for the
local public to experience the peace and natural beauty of Tripura. One can
spend cherished moments in the exquisite gardens of the palace.
The interior of the castle is worth seeing; the Gol verandah has seen many
great poets writing numerous songs and poems. Today such great masterpieces
are a glory of pride to the palace.
