Bara Bazar
Bara Bazaar is the most famous and popular flea market in Aizawl for
purchasing local items and traditional clothes. If you are stepping in
Aizawl for the first time then Bara Bazaar shall be on your must visit list.
Locals dressed in their traditional costumes sell produce from farms and
homesteads including river crabs, wicker baskets, vegetables etc. Tourists
mostly love to buy colourful traditional garments, shoes and cosmetic items
from this market.
The steep Zion Street is lined with stalls selling garments. The main bazar
is where the people are best seen in their traditional costumes selling
produce from the farms as well as imports from China brought through Myanmar
border area.
The Millennium Centre in the same locality is a popular shopping Mall.
Getting There
Aizawl is connected by roads with various major cities of Mizoram. It is
connected by road with Silchar through National Highway 54 (NH54), with
Agartala through National Highway 40 (NH40) and with Imphal through National
Highway 150 (NH150). Various bus routes run within the city along with the
taxis that ply the roads, making it very convenient for the locals to travel
within the city.
Silchar is the nearest railway station to Aizawl which is only 178 km away
from the city. Local trains are also available to Lumding from here. Mizoram
state transport buses ply between Aizawl and Silchar daily.
Aizawl is served by
Lengpui Airport, located 35 km northwest of the city. Currently Air
India are operating scheduled flights daily at
Lengpui Airport to
Imphal and Kolkata. Jet Airways also provide scheduled flights to Guwahati
and Kolkata from this Airport three flights weekly.
