Satkosia Tiger Reserve
Satkosia Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve located in the Angul district of
Odisha, India covering an area of 988.30 km².
It is located where the Mahanadi River passes through a 22 km long gorge in
the Eastern Ghats mountains.
The Tiger Reserve is located in the Eastern Highlands moist deciduous
forests ecoregion. The major plant communities are mixed deciduous forests
including Sal (Shorea robusta), and riverine forest.
Satkosia Gorge Wildlife Sanctuary was created in 1976, with an area of 796
km². Saktosia Tiger Reserve was designated in 2007, and comprises the
Saktosia Gorge Wildlife Sanctuary and the adjacent Baisipalli Wildlife
Sanctuary.
Important tourist points within Satkosia Tiger Reserve are Tikarapada,
Chhotakei, and Purunakote.
If you are visiting Satkosia Tiger Reserve from Pampasar side, you will
require half an hour to reach Tikarapada tourist place by vehicle. Further
to visit GRACU, Interpretation Centre and to strol along you require at
least another half an hour. The site of Tikarapada gets closed at 5.0 pm in
the evening.
From Tikarapada, you will require 15 minutes to reach Purunakote tourist
site located on small hillock. You can have a cup of tea / snacks in the
canteen run by TIPPS. Thereat while enjoying the animals in the meadow.
From Purunakote, you will require 30 minutes to reach Chhotkei tourist place
to enjoy the panoramic view from another hill top. You can have tea / snacks
at the canteen run by TIPPS.
The site at the Pampasar is closed to tourist at 6.0 pm. Therefore, you need
to another 45 minutes for Chhotkei to reach the entry side at Pampasar.
Getting There
Satkosia Tiger Reserve located 33 km away from Angul town center.
Situated on NH 42 at a distance of 160 km from Bhubaneswar, Angul is an
important road junction of the State connected by regular bus services from
Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Talcher, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Rourkela,
Raipur, Durgapur and other important places of the State and nearby States.
Angul Railway Station is on the Barang Jn.–Sambalpur section of
Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai line in the East Coat Railway Zone headquartered at
Bhubaneswar. Important train routes to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Howrah, Nagpur,
New Delhi, Kurla, Visakhapatnam make it helpful for Angul citizens to
commute to other parts of nation.
In Angul, taxis, buses and autos are available easily. There are a number of
moderately priced hotels in the town.

three hours drive to Biju
Patnaik International Airport from Angul. To make arrangements for a
