Tapan Dighi is a huge lake that is located at Tapan around 35 km north-west of Balurghat and and 15 km from Gangarampur. The lake has a breadth of about a kilometre and a length of about 2 km.

On the northern bank of this lake, one dilapidated mound dating back to the period of Buddha can be seen. The real truth can be unearthed only if excavation work is taken up. Another important site in this area is the village Manohali. One can see large number of icons still remaining scattered in this area.

According to legends, the lake was dug by King Laxman Sen in order to offer ‘Tarpana’ for his ancestors.

Getting There

Balurghat Railway Station on the Eklakhi-Balurghat branch line and is located in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal. It serves Balurghat city and the surrounding areas.

Balurghat Airport has had no scheduled services operating. Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport of Balurghat with scheduled services. From there taxi or cab is always available.

Regular bus services are available from any parts of West Bengal. It takes few hours to reach the place.
