Vajrapoha Falls

Vajrapoha Falls (also Vajrapoya Waterfalls), a waterfall in the Belgaum
district of Karnataka in India, is situated about in the mountainous forest
8.5 kilometres (5.3 mi) in South West direction from the village of Jamboti.
Between the village of Gavali and Chapoli on an elevated hillock, the
Mandovi River that flows to the beautiful Vajrapoha Falls that fall for up
to 200 metres (660 ft) and are best seen after the monsoon season (June -
October).
The Mandovi River (also called the Mahadayi River) is fed by streams near
the villages of Gavali, Hemmadaga, Jamboti, Kankumbi, and Talawade villages.
Mandovi River is the longest river in Goa, with the beautiful Varapoha Falls
has its origin in the Jamboti hills.
Lying in the Western Ghats (also called Sahyadris) mountainous area, the
region may receive up to 3,800 to 5,700 millimetres (150 to 220 in) of
rainfall per year. During the summer months (March - May) the stream and
river water levels can become low.
Getting There
The falls are about 1.5 hours drive from South West of Belgaum.
Belgaum is connected by road via National Highways 4 and 4A. North Western
Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) run buses to all corners of
Karnataka and to neighbouring states. There are many prominent private bus
companies providing services to all major destinations in Karnataka and
surrounding states.
Belgaum Railway Station is on the Indian Railways grid, being part of the
South Western railways, and is well connected by rail to major destinations.
The city is served by
Belgaum Airport at Sambra, which is the oldest airport in North
Karnataka and lies 10 km (6.2 mi) from the city on State Highway 20.
Currently, IndiGo and
Star Air serve scheduled
commercial flights to various cities in India.
