Situated 17 kms from Silchar, Sri Kancha Kanti Devi temple is a very
famous temple, which is considered very powerful. Dedicated to a
Goddess who is the combine of Kali and Durga, the temple was said to
be built by a Kachari King on receiving a command in dream.
The
original temple was built in 1806 AD by the Kachari King. Human
sacrifices were offered to the Goddess till 1818 AD. The old temple
is ruined now and has been replaced by new temple which was built in
1978, old temple was destroyed due to natural disaster.
Fulfillment of one's desire is assured under the dream-commanded
tree at the Ashram of Brajamohan Goswami, 2-km more ahead. Devouts
may have their prasad at midday. |

Getting There
Silchar is well connected by
road, railways and air to the rest of the country. Regular bus services
connect Silchar with Guwahati, Shillong, Aizawl, Agartala and Imphal through
NH 37 and NH 53.
The nearest Railway Station to
Silchar is Badarpur Railway Station, located at a distance of 32 km from
Silchar. It is very well connected to many major cities like Maibong,
Lumding, Mamit, Dimapur and Guwahati.
Silchar Airport is
about 24 kilometers away from the main city and it takes only a 45-50
minutes drive. Cabs and private cars are easily available at the city for
the airport.
