Vidyanagar Airport
Vidyanagar Airport (IATA: VDY, ICAO: VOJV) also known as Jindal Vijaynagar
Airport, is a public airport located in Toranagallu, in the state of
Karnataka, India. The Air strip is located at the Jindal Vijayanagar Steels
complex, Toranagallu in Sandur Taluk, 40 kilometres away from Bellary.
Formerly a private landing strip for JVSL employees, the airport was
upgraded to receive its first commercial flights in December 2006, serving
tourism and business interests in Bellary District.
Bangalore based Charter airline, Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Ltd (TAAL)
Chipsan Aviation Pvt Ltd, operate sightseeing charter flights to Hampi and
Mysore since October 2002.
The Airport has one runway oriented 13/31, 5223 feet (1,592 meter) length
with asphalt surface. The Airport comes under the administrative control of
the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Airlines and Destinations
Before this, regional airline TruJet started providing daily flight
services from Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Later, the operations were
indefinitely suspended without reason given.
Currently, passenger services has resumed again by Alliance Air from the
Airport to Bengaluru and Hyderabad from 30 October 2022.
