Delhi Gate of Aurangabad
Aurangabad does have its own historical gate known as the Delhi Darwaza or
the Delhi Gate of Aurangabad. The Delhi Gate in Aurangabad is one of the
gates of the Aurangabad city wall, which was built during the Mughal era.
The gate is located in the northern part of the city and provides access to
the famous Bibi Ka Maqbara and the
Panchakki, which are popular tourist attractions
in Aurangabad.
There were 52 gates in Aurangabad of which 4 principal gates faced the
cardinal points and consisted of Delhi Gate on the north, the Jalna Gate on
the east, the Paithan Gate on the south and the Mecca Gate on the west. Most
of these gates are now in dilapidated condition.
Delhi Gate is the largest and the most stately, it was built by Aurangzeb.
It is situated to the north of the city facing Delhi.
It is similar to Lahore Gate of Delhiās Lal Quila (Red Fort).
Getting There
To get to the Delhi Gate of Aurangabad, you can take a taxi, rickshaw, or
local bus from the city center. The gate is located about 6 kilometers from
the city center, and the journey should take around 20-30 minutes by car or
rickshaw and slightly longer by bus.
