Kangra Art Museum

The Kangra Art Museum is dedicated to the brilliant marvels of Tibetan and Buddhist artwork and their rich history. Among the large variety of its precious collectibles are jewelry, rare coin memorabilia, paintings, sculptures and pottery.

Museum of Kangra Art was opened on 17 January, 1990 to preserve, conserve and revive the rich cultural heritage of Kangra region. Museum is a treasure house of rich heritage of the valleys art and culture.

Museum is still in infancy but now the collection is increased to 1500 art object comprising miniature paintings, textiles, sculptures, jewellery, coins and objects of cultural anthropology.

 

Opening hours: 10.00 am - 1.30 pm & 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm (Tuesday - Sunday)


Getting There

The Kangra Art Museum is located near to Kotwali Bazaar, just off the main road of the town of Dharamsala.

Being a city and a municipal council in Kangra district, Kangra is well connecting by road to the rest of the Himachal Pradesh. There is a broad gauge railhead located in Pathankot near Kangra at a distance of around 90 km. Taxis are available from railway station to the city.

Reaching Kangra by airways can be through the Gaggal Airport, which is connecting the airport to Delhi and Chandigarh by Air India, JetSpice and Jagson Airlines. This Airport is situated at a distance of nearly 12 kilometers from Kangra. Taxi services from the Gaggal Airport to Kangra.

For local transport, the commuters have the options of city bus and auto-rickshaw. Auto rickshaws are the popular mode of local commuting.
