Chapora Fort
Located 10km from Mapusa, the red-laterite bastion, was built by the
Portuguese in 1617 on the site of an earlier Muslim structure. Intended
as a border watchpost, it fell to various Hindu raiders during the 17th
century, before finally being deserted by the Portuguese in 1892. |

Fort Aguada
This is the largest and the best-preserved Portuguese bastion in Goa and
was built in 1609-12, to control the entry into the river Mandovi and to
protect Old Goa from potential enemy attacks.

The early church was completely re-built from its foundations in 1619

Not far to the west of the Basilica of the Bom Jesus is the Holy Hill at
the extremity of which is the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Built of
laterite and plastered with lime mortar, it has a two-storeyed portico. |
