Gujari Mahal

Gujari Mahal in Hisar was built by Feroze Shah Tughlaq for his beloved wife Gujari Rani. The Mahal (Palace) has huge elongated walls plastered thick with lime and narrow gateways, reflecting the rich Tughlaq architectural style that gives an amazing view to the eyes of any tourist who visits there.

The palace was built with stones that were taken from the Hindu palaces and temples that were destroyed during the Mughal reign. Open stairs lead to the baradari (pavilion) of the palace, which stands on a high plinth and has underground chambers. The baradari is a square structure having three developed arches on each side. The walls of the palace are beautifully carved with red sandstone brackets and various figures are carved above the arched openings.

There is a huge entrance gate on the fourth side. All the entrances of the fort have stone door frames. The roof has nine bays, each carrying hemispherical dome decorated with paneling work in lime plaster.

The palace consists of the Royal residence of the Sultan Feroz Shah, the Shahi Darwaza (royal door), Diwan-e-Aam (meeting hall), and a Baradari (pavilion) with three tehkhanas (underground halls), Hamam (bathroom), a Mosque and carved pillars.
