Maniharan Tunnel

The Maniharan Tunnel in Silchar, is one of the most popular destinations in the area, amongst tourists and pilgrims alike. The tunnel lies around 5 km away from the famous Bhubaneswar Temple, and according to popular beliefs, it was used by Lord Krishna a long time ago.

The tunnel, which lies atop the holy river Tribeni, also has the famous Maniharan temple in its premises which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Bhuvan Hill is nearly 5 km from the tunnel.

There is another small temple just above the tunnel which is dedicated to Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Garura and Lord Hanumana. Main festivals celebrated here are Holi, Baruni, Diljatra and Shivratri during which the temple is heavily visited.

 

Getting There

Silchar is well connected by road, railways and air to the rest of the country. Regular bus services connect Silchar with Guwahati, Shillong, Aizawl, Agartala and Imphal through NH 37 and NH 53.

The nearest Railway Station to Silchar is Badarpur Railway Station, located at a distance of 32 km from Silchar. It is very well connected to many major cities like Maibong, Lumding, Mamit, Dimapur and Guwahati.

Silchar Airport is about 24 kilometers away from the main city and it takes only a 45-50 minutes drive. Cabs and private cars are easily available at the city for the airport.
