Vasai, also known as Bassein is
situated at a distance of about 48 kms north of Mumbai. It is presently part
of Vasai-Virar city. Vasai is also known for its Vasai Fort that was used by
Chimajo Rao and Shivaji. The fort is one of the major Vasai attractions.
Surrounded by sea on three sides and a moat on the side of the land, Vasai
fort is well equipped with water-tanks, store-houses and armory. Vasai was
one the main naval bases of India and ship-building center of Portuguese and
houses magnificent houses, convents, churches and an orphanage that was
built by Portuguese.
Vasai Road Railway Station is the
nearest railway station from where you can take trains for other major
cities like Bhuj, Ahmedabad, Kolhapur, Pune etc. Vasai is also well
connected with well maintained and spacious roads.
You can easily get regular trains
and buses from other major cities of the country to Virar. Nearest airport
is located at Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji
International Airport, 50 km away.
