Dhanbad is a city in the Indian
state of Jharkhand and it is most populated city in Jharkhand. Dhanbad was earlier known as Dhanbaid in which the word ‘Dhan’ means ‘Paddy’ and ‘baid’ means ‘paddy
land’. Dhanbad is also known as the Coal Capital of India as several
industry giants acquired the coal mines in the region and are still mining
in the region.

resources into the useful products as per the need of the market. Dhanbad
Rail Division is regarded as the second largest division in terms of
revenue.

Dhanbad features climate that is
transitional between a humid subtropical climate and a tropical wet and dry
climate. Summer starts from last week of March and ends in mid-June. Peak
temperature in summer can reach 48 °C. Dhanbad also receives heavy rainfall.
In winter, the minimum temperature remains around 10 °C with a maximum of 22
°C.
National Highway 19 and National Highway 18 are the major highways passing
through Dhanbad. Private and State buses are available for inter-city
travelling.
Dhanbad Junction Railway Station
is the largest railway station in Jharkhand, handling over 100 trains and
100,000+ passengers every day. Dhanbad is also the headquarters of the
Dhanbad Rail Division of the East Central Railway zone. Grand Chord
rail-line that connects Howrah and New Delhi passes through Dhanbad
Junction.

the nearest airport that is situated at distance of about 5 km from the
town. Currently, the airport has no scheduled commercial airline flights.
Birsa Munda Airport at Ranchi
is the nearest domestic airport to Dhanbad, it is located around 150 km via
NH320.
