Widely known as the “Power house
of Orissa” due to the presence of a large number of thermal power plants in
the nearby region, Jharsuguda is located in the state of Orissa and is also
the administrative headquarters of the Jharsuguda district. Jharsuguda is
regarded as an upcoming industrial center, primarily in the metal and cement
sectors.

As per the legend, the farmers from Jharkhand state established Jharsuguda
during 12th Century A.D. In 1936 under the British rule, Jharsuguda became a
part of Sambalpur district. The new district of Jharsuguda came into entity
on 1st April, 1994.
Jharsuguda is well connected with
other nearby cities by State Highway 10 and National Highway. Rickshaws are
available in town. There are a number of moderately priced
hotels in the town.
Jharsuguda is an important
railway junction on the Tatanagar–Bilaspur section of Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai
line and Jharsuguda-Vizianagaram line. The railway station comes under South
Eastern Railway.
