The city was the Capital of the Pathani Rajputs state of Nurpur. Due to its geographical location, Pathankot is the meeting point of three states Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Its scenic location and the cultural heritage of the Rajputs have made this city a well frequented tourist spot. Nurpur Fort Nurpur Fort
The fort was originally known as Dhameri fort, built before the 10th century. It was the main seat of the Pathanian kings, which was destroyed partially by Britishers and Earth quake in April 1905 AD.

Also known as the Thein Dam, is part of a hydroelectric project constructed by the Government of Punjab on the Ravi River in the state of Punjab. The project is situated near Pathankot city in Pathankot district of the state of Punjab.
