Two wells of approximately 70 feet deep are there in the premises.
The third well of around 100 feet deep is present on the right hand side of
the main entrance. All these wells are having a huge stock of potable water
(In spite of the close by Arabian Sea). On the left hand side of main
entrance small temple of Hanumanji is being constructed. Auspicious place
Goddess is present into a cave near to the fortification. In short, one can
say that Jaigad Fort is an ancient and beautiful place to visit.
The main entrance is after the deep ditch. This entrance is in between two
bastions. On the top of these bastions government rest house is being
constructed. In the premises of the Jaigad Fort there is a Lord Ganeshji’s
Temple, Light house and an old splintered mansion of care takers of the
fort.
Getting There
MSRTC is having a good number of buses from Ratnagiri Bus Station to
Jaigad. Private vehicle can reach up to the Fort by tar road. The Fort is
around 35 km from NH-17 (From Nivali Phata).
Ratnagiri is well connected by
road that makes the travel easier for the tourists. Ratnagiri is a coastal
district and the most convenient way to reach Ratnagiri town is by train.
The Konkan Railway Line passes through Ratnagiri and there are numerous
trains plying between Mumbai and Ratnagiri. From outside the railway station
local taxis are easily available.
Regular bus services are
available from most of the major cities in Maharashtra to Ratnagiri. State
owned and private buses ply from Ratnagiri to many cities in and around.
Evening trips of tourist luxury buses are available from Mumbai to
Ratnagiri. City buses and auto rickshaws are available for intra city travel
in Ratnagiri.
Ratnagiri has its own domestic airport named as
Ratnagiri Airport. Currently there are no
scheduled airlines operating at this Airport. The nearest domestic /
international airport is Goa
International Airport, located in Dabolim, roughly 258 km from Ratnagiri.
Goa International Airport is
well connected to major cities in India.
