A historical city known for its
tradition and culture, Sultanpur is situated on the banks of River Gomti. It
is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is the headquarters of
Sultanpur District. The city is famous for its unique tradition and culture
and was previously known as Kushapura.
Sultanpur is an industrial
district. Also, there are large number of crops cultivated in the district
like rice, wheat, barley, sugarcane and poppy. Jagdishpur is the main
industrial center in Sultanpur. The existence of the city of Sultanpur dates
back to the period of Lord Rama. It is considered that Lord Rama divided the
city among his brothers and sons. The old city laid on the bank of River
Gomti and was known as Kusapura or Kusabhavanpur, named after the founder of
the city, Kusa.
