Thoothukudi

Thoothukudi, a town located 600 km from the state capital Chennai and the district head quarters of Thoothukudi District. Fishing, pearl harvesting, salt production are the main occupation of this area. This is also called as the Pearl City because of the availability of rich pearls under the sea here. This was called as Thoothukudi earlier. The special feature of this town is the natural harbour.

Apart from being a commercial center, this is an exotic tourist attraction for its sunny and sandy beaches. Tiruchendur, Ettayapuram, Panchalnkurichi, Kulasekarappattinam, Manapad, Puliyampatti, Deivaseyalpuram and Korkai are few religious and historically important places around this town.

In Thoothukudi, taxis, buses and rails are available easily. There are a number of moderately priced hotels in the town.

	Kayalpattinam Beach Situated near Kayapatnam city at a distance of 5 km even consists of many admirable attraction sights. This beach resides few mosques near for its pilgrims.
	Thiruchendur Murugan Temple One of the most revered temple of Tuticorin, this temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga. The temple is about 40 km away from the city, but is well worth the extra travelling.
	Kalugasalamoorthy Temple The temple is devoted to various idols belonging to Jainism. The beauty of the temple lies in the intricate patterns carved on numerous of its walls along with an unfinished rock temple in the vicinity.
	Srivaikuntanathan Perumal Temple Also called Srivaikuntam Temple and Kallapiran Temple in Srivaikuntam, a town in Thoothukudi district, is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. It is located 22 km from Tirunelveli.
	Our Lady of Snows Basilica One of the most popular places of worship in Tamil Nadu. It is a shrine dedicated to St. Mary and is inspired from the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.
